Our week is almost over and now we are called to focus on relationships, our love for our Creator God, and for all the persons with whom we are connected. There are many bonds drawing us together. The planet Earth is sometimes referred to as a global village; nations are interdependent, they need each other economically and socially. Our many cultures are spread across borders and our politics effect more than our own country. Human relationships, our call to love one another, becomes a deeper part of our spirituality as we recognize our dependence on our sisters and brothers in distant places and as we identify the effects of our country’s decisions on those who have been made poor. The command to love one another is second only to the directive to love our God with all our heart, our entire mind and all our strength.
God, our liberator, lead me to see and understand those bonds of unity that can bring us together in solidarity, so that we become promoters of dialogue, communion, and peace. As we are called to a table where bread and wine are served and where decisions are made, let us call our sisters and brothers to the same table where all can share the resources of Creation, where Justice and Peace will reign, and where Love will transform us and our earthly structures so goodness can flourish.
