PRAYER / Lenten Reflection 2005Thursday, February 17, 2005 |

Yes, today's gospel reading refers to our practice of prayer. But it is surely more. It speaks loudly about the kind of God to whom we pray. It is a God who knows only how to give good gifts to His precious children. We can count on that, Jesus tells us. God is our divine Model whom we are to imitate when we become aware of an urgent need among our sisters and brothers. In his Lenten Reflections (Pax Christi USA), Johnny Zokovitch says, "We praise our God when we, in turn, respond to human need with loving care and compassionate action." In today’s global village, we are called often to that kind of response.
I will examine my "track record" in this regard, remembering with gratitude the many times "I called for help and (God) answered me" with good gifts.
